Full time -- Registered Nurse (Ortho Clewiston) - Orthopedic
Hendry Regional Medical Center, a respected critical access medical center in South Florida with nearly seventy-five years of dedicated service to the community, is a thriving, mission-driven organization seeking to hire a Registered Nurse to join our Orthopedic Physician Practice team.
The RN provides compassionate, patient-centered care and clinical support to patients and providers. In this orthopedic practice setting, the RN performs patient assessments, prepares patients for examinations and procedures, administers medications and immunizations as appropriate, collects specimens, documents patient information accurately in the electronic health record, and assists providers during treatments. This role is essential to promoting smooth patient flow, supporting the healthcare team, and ensuring a positive experience for every patient from arrival to check-out.

Job Duties:
Works under the Scope of Practice for a Registered Nurse set forth by the Florida Board of Nursing.
Works under the direction of the Director of Physician Practices, the CNO, the RN Clinical Coordinator, Medical Director and provides to oversee, manage, train, and assist nurse and other staff within the department.
Prepares patients for examinations and procedures; obtains and documents vital signs, height, weight, pain scale, and other measurements accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Collects laboratory specimens, performs waived testing, and completes associated documentation in compliance with CLIA and clinic policies.
Performs basic laboratory procedures and venipuncture as trained and documented as competent.
Assists providers with minor procedures, splinting, and casting as directed.
Provides patient education and instructions, ensuring communication is clear and appropriate to the patient’s ability to understand.
Prepares, maintains, and stocks exam rooms, equipment, and supplies; ensures all equipment is in safe working order.
Handles patient calls, documents messages, and routes information appropriately.
Schedules follow-up visits, coordinates referrals, and assists with prior authorizations as needed.
Responsible for conducting preoperative assessments and preparations for patients scheduled for orthopedic surgery, ensuring all necessary documentation, tests and patient education are completed prior to the procedure.
Scope of Practice –RN Only
Administers medications (oral, topical, intramuscular, and subcutaneous) as ordered by the provider, consistent with state regulations and licensure.
Initiates and administers intravenous therapy if IV-certified and permitted by Florida licensure.
Calls in prescription orders to pharmacies under provider direction, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Performs more advanced patient assessments (e.g., focused systems assessments) and documents findings in the EMR.
Provides clinical judgment within scope of practice, recognizing and reporting abnormal findings promptly to the provider.
Documentation & Communication (Both MA and LPN)
Accurately documents all patient-related interactions, treatments, and orders in the EMR, ensuring completeness and compliance with HRMC standards.
Communicates effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members, fostering trust and respect.
Ensures proper handoff communication during transitions of care, admissions, or transfers.
Compliance, Safety & Patient Advocacy (Both MA and LPN)
Adheres to hospital, clinic, and regulatory standards, including The Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, ACHA, and HIPAA.
Demonstrates awareness of patient rights and serves as a patient advocate, maintaining confidentiality and dignity.
Follows infection control procedures, bloodborne pathogen protocols, and safety precautions in all clinical activities.
Recognizes and responds appropriately to emergency situations, assisting with life-saving measures such as CPR.
Teamwork, Leadership & Professional Development
Participates in orientation and training of new personnel.
Supports other physician practices or clinical areas as assigned based on competency.
Contributes to quality improvement initiatives, striving for excellence in patient care and service.
Demonstrates flexibility in responding to workload changes and emergent needs.
Additional Responsibilities
Performs opening and closing duties of the clinic as assigned.
Completes other tasks and responsibilities as delegated by the provider, clinical coordinator, or supervisor, consistent with training, licensure, and HRMC policies.
Qualifications:
Education, Experience & Licensure
• High school diploma or GED equivalent from a Department of Education–accredited program required.
• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. ACLS and PALS certification preferred. Certifications are only accepted from the American Heart Association.
• One (1) year of clinical experience in an outpatient or physician practice setting preferred, orthopedic or specialty practice experience highly desirable.
• Previous experience in a high- environment, demonstrating ability to provide compassionate, patient centered care and to multitask while maintaining accuracy and patient satisfaction.

Technical & Computer Skills
• Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems required; experience with E Clinical Works preferred.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and web-based applications preferred.
• Ability to utilize technology to enhance workflow efficiency, accuracy, and patient experience.
Language & Communication Skills
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Bilingual abilities (English/Spanish) strongly preferred to support communication with diverse patient populations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally to patients, families, and staff.
• Ability to identify and implement appropriate patient communication strategies, including overcoming accessibility barriers when needed.
Compliance & Regulatory Knowledge
• Familiarity with HIPAA, OSHA, and Joint Commission standards to ensure patient confidentiality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Understanding of insurance eligibility, benefits verification, and billing processes preferred.
